Quest for Perfection

I have written this inaugural post so many times whether in my head or typed in a note, but it has never been quite right. Recently, I was working through an hour-long Peloton ride, and I was struck by something Christine D’Ercole, one of my favorite instructors, said and something that I have often thought of but have not stated so succinctly. We are works in progress.

It’s been nearly FIVE years since I first joked about posting my stories and rants. At the time, I was training clients and teaching a weekly HIIT class to 20-30 people. Not only was I an instructor during that hour-long session, but I was also a cheerleader and an entertainer. During that time, I had created a note on my iPad with all of the stories that I had shared with everyone in my class and then one day, the note was GONE.

On our first annual beach weekend together without our families, I mentioned this to Rachel. She was just beginning her schooling to becoming a registered dietitian (RD) and loved the idea of a shared forum. We spent the ride home trying to remember and recreate those stories.

The following year we started this venture on one website platform, but it wasn’t quite what we were looking for. Another year went by as we moved to a different platform that pushed us in the right direction. The next year was lost to everyday life, but we finally had a name, logo and message that we liked. It’s the end of the fourth year, and we keep waiting for the perfect, polished version of our blog to get published. So, Christine reminded me that Lift4Today is a work in progress, just as we are works in progress. There isn’t going to be a perfect version of this website or who we are, just us striving to be a better version of ourselves. If I’m really honest with myself, I wanted our perfect site to go live years ago.

But then I think of the message that we are trying to convey. Our health journeys do not happen overnight or with a 30-day quick fix. Our journeys take time, one small step at a time (maybe not as slow as our debut!). So, I just need to publish our blog and little by little it will all come together.

Rachel and I created this space to share our thoughts and our knowledge with you. We want to give you the opportunity to learn from our experiences, share in our stories, offer tips and advice that can help you reach your health goals. Lift4Today implies that every day offers an opportunity for us to improve, increase, gain or achieve higher than we did the day before. We lift for today so that we can continue on our journeys tomorrow. What’s your journey?
